Barrister Aitzaz Ahsan - World’s 5th Public Intellectual
Barrister Aitzaz Ahsen has been recognized by the Foreign Policy Journal as the world’s fifth best public intellectual. Here is the link: The World’s Top 20 Public Intellectuals. Read it yourself.
There has surely been criticism too especially because the journal claims that top ten of the world intellectuals are Muslims. Yet on my part I have never doubted Barrister Aitzaz’s intellectual stature. Congratulations sir! We all are proud of you, as a leader and as a personal friend.
Here is his introduction by the journal:
President of Pakistan’s Supreme Court Bar Association, Ahsan has been a vocal opponent of President Pervez Musharraf’s rule. When Musharraf dismissed the head of the Supreme Court in March 2007, it was Ahsan who led the legal challenge to reinstate the chief justice and rallied thousands of lawyers who took to the streets in protest. He was arrested several times during the period of emergency rule last year. Today, he is a senior member of the Pakistan Peoples Party, formerly led by Benazir Bhutto, and one of the country’s most recognizable politicians.
Please note the following from FP Journal:
“… a number of intellectuals—including Aitzaz Ahsan, Noam Chomsky, Michael Ignatieff, and Amr Khaled—mounted voting drives by promoting the list on their Web sites. Others issued press releases or gave interviews to local newspapers. Press coverage profiling these intellectuals appeared around the world, with stories running in Canada, India, Indonesia, Qatar, Spain, and elsewhere.”
It is interesting that so many Muslim “intellectuals” were looking for validation from an American publication to certify their intellectual stature. What a travesty.

Just imagine Farrukh all these are almost bonafide leftists but were not available to the
world to announce /inform about the Yugoslavian trivia that humiliated and killed so
many muslims and christians and secularists. These socialist leaders earned socially
from Non Aligned Movement that was announced by Marshal Tito[ Christian] col.,Jamal
Abdul Nasser [Muslim] Mr Jawahar Lal Nehru[ Secularist/Socialist] ………….
….nobody in the world can explain what was the need for harvard University/boston to
establish a NAM
conference /forum whatever the Durban Conference is around early 80s …
I bet they all cannot tell between Republic and Democracy.
The constitutional lawyers are modern criminals .
And publics everywhere are getting deeper into official corruption and crimes,that the states cover /distract public attention by going to war. [Resorting to Violence]
I like to indulge in a debate but you can tell the harvardians dravidians ,have to reach thier cousins engagement ceremony, or just would like to rephrase.
The topic of the debate should be ‘Written Constitutions are a Crime” .
