Time has come for the Commonwealth to finally decide whether to suspend Pakistan owing to Musharraf’s actions or not. Frankly it is the prerogative of those who participate in the meeting to decide but I must remind everyone one thing. Pakistan today is desperately looking towards its friends to support its people. We, the citizens of this country, are exploring the entire world for allies. Those who condone Musharraf’s actions cannot be our friends, those who tolerate his single minded pursuit of stupidity cannot be our good allies. Musharraf cannot rule Pakistan or live forever. Governments in Pakistan keep changing. If someday, and given the degree of popular dissent not in a too distant future, a government reflective of values and aspirations comes the trust of the friends will be vindicated, and those who have weakened us or maintained ambiguity will never be forgotten.
Same goes for the King who met Musharraf yesterday, and all other countries that do not want to break ties with him. The enemies of Pakistan can certainly destroy it by supporting Musharraf but not the people of this country. We will remember our friends and foes and please assure yourself that we know how to make our impact even peacefully and pluralistically.
Today offers Pakistan’s top military leadership (minus Musharraf of course) a final opportunity to reflect. It has to decide whether its interests lie with its people or a madman and his coterie of sycophants ruling it. Sir, times keep changing but please remember that today’s Pakistan does not belong in the Ayub, Yahya or Zia era. Today we know how to survive and to remember who usurped our rights. If, for this country, for its people and for the army’s sake, you think that he has done wrong and yet are helpless then please at the very least resign.
For those who are blindly supporting Musharraf’s cause, may it be the stupid so-called Chief Election Commissioner, Naeem Bokhari, the corrupt Attorney General or the Supreme Court Chief of sycophants I have one advice, “RUN AND HIDE YOU GOOD FOR NOTHING MORONS FOR IF YOU DO NOT PULL BACK YOUR BODIES WILL BE FOUND HANGING WITH THE POLES ONE DAY WHEN MUSHARRAF IS NOT THERE TO PROTECT YOU. And that day may not be that far off. So run and hide”.
The one who corrects his course will be our hero. Please believe me that I am a pacifist man and have not ever even killed a sparrow but witnessing this horrible show of madness by the madman and his sycophants I feel that I should die at least twice every single second. Who gives Musharraf the right to abrogate constitution, usurp rights, beat the heck out of people, close media outlets, humiliate women citizens and stifle all hope of a better tomorrow?
Political parties have to chose their future course too. Altaf Bhai and his supporters need to ask themselves whether they want their party to be reduced to a sycophant’s tonga party or they want to stand with the popular stream of opinion. Its not too late to change course.
It is really welcome that the People’s Party has not taken any hasty decision regarding the elections. It certainly faces a dilemma. If it chooses to contest elections then it has to fight on Musharraf’s terms and conditions. And if it chooses to boycott then of course it may have to endure a 1985-like situation. In my opinion if it has to boycott then it should try injecting some serious spirit into the agitation. In the past we used to witness mobs forcing even the army security personnel called for the maintenance of order to play defensive during the agitations. Arson and riots used to be common practice. Now people are even intimidated by police wielding nothing but batons and tear gas shells. The time has come to shake the very foundation of Musharraf government.
And finally I think Fazlur Rehman needs to wake up. He neither has chance nor the potential or talents to be the premier of this country. I don’t know why is he so power thirsty that whenever someone says that the Maulana should or would be made the premier Maulana is found playing in his lap. Wake up Maulana, if you do not understand what you are doing then at least know that this country cannot afford a prime minister like you nor anyone is going to support you on the eleventh hour.
Again I think the media, the intelligentsia, the deposed judiciary and the civil society have shown that they have the best morals and conscience. People like Mushahid and the young ones in the PML-Q and other official parties should detach themselves from the government if not for anything else then at least for saving their skins. And Qazi Hussain and his JI advisers need to resign at once from the party posts and promise never to return
God bless.
